We're Back!

After a long hiatus from the e-newsletter front, SPIDERtel is glad to announce that we are definitely alive and kicking. We've been busy helping our existing and many new customers grow through the Internet and found ourselves neglecting our newsletter responsibilities. (A bit of the shoemaker's children saga here, we're afraid.)

Anyway, not only are we back on track with regularly scheduled e-newsletters, we're also proud to introduce our newly redesigned web site: www.spidertel.com. The new web site is a show-case for us, representing many of the latest techniques and features in a bold new design.

Tune Up with Our FREE Web Site Audit Tool

Among these new features is a Free Web Site Audit Tool where we take requests for conducting a personalized review of your existing web site. We use over 20 critical criteria to evaluate your web site. This is not an automated review; we actually visit your web site, and give it a thorough once-over with our professionally trained, critical eyes. Our evaluation is free and confidential and there's no obligation to use our services. So, if you're in the market for a web site redesign, consider this tool. Click here to get started.

Why SEM?

People use search engines to find what they are looking for all the time, all day long. In fact, 85% of people online use a search engine when trying to locate a product, service, or information. If your site doesn’t show up in the first page of search engine listings, you’re missing out on the vast majority of Internet users. Most users will not look past the first page of the search results.

What is SEM?

What is SEM you ask? SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. It’s a very calculated process of making a website the most enticing and digestible it can be to search engines. The process begins by conducting detailed research on how your target audience searches for your product or service in order to determine what phrases will work best for you. Once your key phrases are identified, they are used throughout the site to make sure you are considered an “expert” in your product or service’s field.

The search engines use very complex algorithms to determine what your site is about and how important it is. Methods used a few years ago to trick the engines, won’t work anymore. In fact, certain outdated methods will cause almost irreparable harm to your site.

Who needs SEM?

As the economy continues it’s recovery, more and more people are starting websites to augment their traditional businesses. Anybody can make a website, but it takes a professional to get your site to the top of the listings.

Anyone that has a website and wants to capture a share of the Internet market needs to have their site optimized. Most searchers won’t continue to browse the results much farther than 10 listings. If you aren’t there, chances are, you won’t get traffic. You’re competition is optimizing their way to the top... why aren’t you?

Major Turbulence In the Search Engine Market

Anyone who doesn't anticipate regular and seismic change in the Search Engine industry is either not paying attention or, well, not breathing air. In the past year, Google saw its dominance in search services weaken some as Yahoo dropped Google's listings in favor of it's own enhanced data base listings.

Yahoo, after going on an acquisition binge with Alta Vista, Overture and Inktomi now part of its family, also changed a very important service that guarantees web site pages to found in its database. Before, pages guaranteed for inclusion into the database were charged an annual fee. Now, owners will incur a per click fee.

The market continued to consolidate with Ask Jeeves gobbling up a few important search sites. Also on the near horizon is Microsoft's long awaited major thrust into the search engine arena. Even though they may be late in the game, given that it's Microsoft, we have to keep them on the radar screen. After all, who ever heard of Google two years ago. That leaves Yahoo, Google, Ask Jeeves and Microsoft as the major search engine players, representing several major search engine properties.

In addition to all that, the methods and algorithms for being found in the search engines has continued to change - good content and popularity management continue to be important keys to success.

With all these major developments, we at SPIDERtel understand how difficult it is to run a successful Search Engine Marketing campaign. That's why we stay up to date, constantly refining our processes and adapting to the changes. Sometimes turning on a dime if necessary.

Can Your Spam? The New Federal CAN SPAM ACT

The new law requires some very specific elements in every mass email. Here's a quick review of the law's main provisions:

Accurate "From" and "To's": The email addresses in these and other header fields, must contain accurate information, including the originating domain name and email address.

No Misleading Subject Lines: Basically, the subject line must not mislead the recipient about what's in the email. The subject does not need to say that it's an advertisement, but it must be clear that it contains an ad or solicitation and the subject must also closely match up with the content of the email.

Provide Opt-Out Method: You must provide a method, that actually works, for the recipient to opt-out of future emails. The law requires that no more emails be sent after 10 days to anyone that opts-out.

Provide Physical Address Information: You must provide a physical address for being reached.

We have found that all of the above requirements are not only easy to comply with, they also amount to good business. By being upfront about who you are and what you are offering, you let those who are truly interested in your services make a quick decision about opening and reading your email. With so much competing legitimate email and spam, it gives you the edge up on getting in front of your qualified audience. Those who would have been misled by false information would not likely have been your target audience anyway.
